How to conquer overwhelm during the holidays
There can be so much to do through the holidays everything from shopping endlessly for just the right gifts; to meal preparations; attending parties; being there for the children’s extra holiday activities; visiting parents and or grandparents, and the list can go on and on.
If you feel like me during this season, then you might be experiencing overwhelm already. I get it.
But what can we do to take care of ourselves so that we can avoid getting overwhelmed or at least deal with it quickly when it comes?
The first thing that comes to my mind is simply to go to the Lord for help.
“From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety.” Psalm 61:2 NLT
Then I might suggest we plan ahead. Let’s start now if we haven’t already and make that list of what needs to be done. Then let’s put those tasks on our calendars and schedule when each task will get done.
Next, I might suggest that we see to whom we can delegate some of the tasks. Of course, delegation takes careful planning and choosing the right person for the task.
Ask yourself this simple question: Who would be good at this task and love to do it? Then, go ahead and ask them.
Another consideration might be to think about where you need to have boundaries around your time, energy, and spending.
Giving yourself boundaries for your own health will help you to keep a space in your schedule for you to take care of yourself.
A balanced lifestyle during this busy time of the year means there is time to rest, time to slow down, and time to enjoy the season.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 NIV
