BALM® 12 Principles Class

Join us for the 12-week class starting June 6th

The BALM® Family Recovery Comprehensive Program is a one-year, on-line program designed to give family members who have loved ones struggling with a Substance Use Disorder (drug or alcohol addiction) a year’s worth of education, transformation, and support.

BALM® is an acronym for Be A Loving Mirror. Being a Loving Mirror means learning to love yourself and your loved one with a substance use disorder in a way that promotes healthy relationships with the aim of lasting recovery for yourself as a family member and potentially for your struggling loved one as well.

The Founder and Director of the program, Beverly A. Buncher, says in her book BALM The Loving Path to Family Recovery “Love is what brings about change, first in yourself, and then potentially in another person. It’s love that works – not harshness, not toughness, not unkindness, not disconnection. It’s always connection and love.”

Let me share with you my story of being in the BALM® Family Recovery Comprehensive Program:

The BALM® brought healing to me in a way that gave me not only hope for my loved one who was suffering from a substance use disorder, but it gave me hope in myself that I could be the mom that my loved one needed. It was exactly what the Great Physician prescribed for me. This program is solution oriented, and I was looking for solutions.

The education I received enabled me to understand the many facets of substance use and because of that I was more equipped to know how to navigate the challenges of having a loved one with a substance use disorder. I learned early on that it was me who needed to heal, grow and change. As I utilized the tools given in the BALM®, as I embraced the support of the BALM® community and as I took advantage of all the educational learning opportunities in the BALM® program, I found myself experiencing my own recovery and truly I and my husband became our loved one’s best chance for recovery.

You see, we began to communicate more effectively with our loved one. We had little mini-BALM® conversations with him. We both stopped reacting out of fear and control and began responding from a place of peace and wisdom.  We learned how to set healthy boundaries.  I can say unequivocally that I have had exponential growth because I joined the BALM® Family Recovery Comprehensive Program. Today my loved one is living a full, rewarding life in long term recovery.
