Let’s talk about what does it mean to “acknowledge” something that we don’t want to admit is true in our lives and/or our family’s lives.

The Cambridge Dictionary’s definition of acknowledge is: “to accept, admit, or recognize something, or the truth or existence of something.” Until I could accept, admit, and recognize the truth that my son had a drug addiction, I could not begin a) my own healing journey; b) helping to find solutions; c) or taking action steps towards recovery for myself and offering help for my son.

In other words, I was STUCK! I WAS IN DENIAL!

Denial is a strong force to contend with. It is the glue that holds the addiction cycle in place. The Cambridge Dictionary’s definition of denial is: “a statement that something is not true or does not exist. Also, a statement that someone has not done something.”

Denial keeps you and I from facing reality and the truth is the harder the reality is to face the stronger the denial will be. Denial is a defense mechanism to protect ourselves from pain, suffering, embarrassment, shame, guilt, fear, making hard decisions and so much more.

Sometimes until we can accept, admit, or recognize something to be true in our lives that we don’t want to be there, we cannot begin the healing process. I would call this a stuck place. But God doesn’t want us to remain stuck, unhealed and broken.

He wants to heal our broken hearts and bind up our wounds. (Psalm 147:3)

He wants us to experience life and that more abundantly. (John 10:10)

He wants us to be free and filled with His joy!

Malachi 4:2 NLT says “But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.”

This is your inheritance, and it is mine too. Let’s together discover how to tap into all that God has for us!
