Series on Spiritual Warfare
In this series of posts, we will discuss spiritual warfare and how it influences and impacts us as family members who have difficult situations in our families.
Part 2
We are discussing spiritual warfare as it relates to the battles going on in our families.
Many are experiencing extreme warfare in their families. I pray this will encourage and strengthen you, my friend, as you stand against the wiles of the enemy at work in your family.
The Father sent Jesus to the earth with a mission. He came to destroy the works of the devil on the cross and redeem mankind bringing him back into fellowship with God and giving him eternal life.
The tree of life is offered back to us through the blood of Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross for our sins. (Revelation 2:7) It’s as if we were prisoners of the devil and given a death sentence since the fall of Adam, that is until Jesus came and bailed us out and gave us freedom. It cost Jesus his very life to set us free. “He canceled out every legal violation we had on our record and the old arrest warrant that stood to indict us. He erased it all-our sins, our stained soul-he deleted it all and they cannot be retrieved! Everything we once were in Adam has been placed onto his cross and nailed permanently there as a public display of cancellation.” (Colossians 2:14-15 TPT)
Everyone who receives Christ as Lord and Savior, repents of their sin, and turns their lives over to Him, has had their sin debt canceled and nailed to the cross. Jesus, in exchange, has given them His new life, through the Holy Spirit living and residing in their spirits. “When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.” (Titus 3:4-5 NLT)
Jesus came as the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. He committed no sin. No deceit was found in his mouth. And in him, there is no sin. (John 1:29, 1 Peter 2:22, 1 John 3:5) God, in His infinite wisdom and love, made Jesus who had no sin to be sin for us. He did this in order that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
When God looks at you and me who know Christ, He sees Christ in us, the sinless, perfect One.
“And although you were at one time estranged and alienated and hostile-minded (toward Him), participating in evil things, yet Christ has now reconciled you (to God) in His physical body through death, in order to present you before the Father holy and blameless and beyond reproach-“(Colossians 1:21-22 AMP)
Though we are positionally made right with God and we have fellowship with God through His Son Jesus, and we have eternal life, we still have to work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
The devil is still in the world. When Jesus was on the earth He said to His disciples “I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of the world (Satan) is coming. And he has no claim on Me (no power over Me nor anything that he can use against Me). (John 14:30 AMP) He is called the “prince of the power of the air (Satan)” in the second chapter of the book of Ephesians, which was written to the early church after Jesus had already ascended into heaven. (Ephesians 2:2 AMP)
That means the devil is still very much alive and active in this world. Paul wrote to the Corinthian believers that the god of this world was the one blinding men to the gospel: “But even if our gospel is (in some sense) hidden (behind a veil) it is hidden (only) to those who are perishing; among them the god of this world (Satan) has blinded the minds of the unbelieving to prevent them from seeing the illuminating light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
Even John wrote to the church “We know that we are children of God and that all the rest of the world around us is under Satan’s power and control.” (1 John 5:19) Therefore, we can conclude that since he is still alive and active in this world, we are still in a battle. Yes, Jesus defeated him at the cross but, we still have a sinful nature where he tempts us to sin and therefore, we have to be on guard at all times.
Next time we will begin to discuss the importance of wearing the armor of God talked about in Ephesians 6. We must be vigilant these days as we have an adversary who would love to devour us and our families.
Greater is He who is in you than He who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
You are an overcomer! In all these things (trials) you are more than a conqueror through Him that loves you! (Romans 8:37)
Stand, my friend, in the power of God! Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power! (Ephesians 6:10)
A person who wholly follows the Lord is one who believes that the promises of God are trustworthy, that He is with His people, and that they are well able to overcome.” Watchman Nee
